Suppressions

The addresses that no longer receive emails from your team: the list, import and export.

What it's for

The suppression list gathers the addresses that no longer receive emails from your team. Postal blocks sending to them automatically, to protect your reputation. Permanent bounces and spam complaints land here on their own; you can also add addresses by hand or in bulk.

When to use it: To block someone who asked not to be contacted, to bring in the blocklist from another provider and to release an address that has been fixed.

#Suppression list

Where to find it: Developers › Suppressions. Address: app.postal.so/suppressions.

ItemWhat it does
ImportOpens the bulk import.
ExportGenerates a CSV of the list.
Email to suppressThe field at the top, with the Suppress button, blocks an address right away.
ColumnWhat it shows
E-mailThe suppressed address.
SourceBounce (the address does not exist or rejected the email), Marked as spam (the recipient complained) or Manual (someone on the team added or imported it).
SinceWhen it was added to the list.
RemoveTakes the address off the list. Only do this if the problem has been fixed (the person corrected the address or asked to come back): sending again to addresses that bounce hurts your reputation.

When an email is sent to a suppressed address, it gets the Suppressed status and does not go out. Suppressed contacts are also left out of broadcasts and can be skipped when importing contacts.

Tip

Many bounces landing here on their own are the sign to clean up the list: validate your base in Email verification.

#Import and export

Import (block several addresses)

To bring over the block list from another provider or to block several addresses at once. Click Import:

  1. Paste the emails into the List of emails to block box (one per line, or separated by commas) or use Upload a CSV or TXT file (up to 5 MB).
  2. The dashboard counts how many addresses it found (N addresses found). The limit is 50,000 addresses at a time; above that, split the list into parts.
  3. Click Block addresses. Progress appears (Sending N of M…) and, at the end, the summary: N blocked · N already on the list · N invalid, with Examples of invalid addresses.

Addresses already on the list are ignored, so repeating the import is safe.

Export

Export generates a CSV of the list. The file is built in the background and downloaded from the task card; it also stays in Settings › Exports for 7 days.
