Automations
Messages that send themselves, at the right time.
Build a flow with a trigger, waits, decisions and emails. Postal takes care of each contact, at their own pace, and records what happened at every step.
- Open signup, start on the Free plan
- History of every run
- A/B tests on the plans that include them
How it works
From trigger to history
Every contact that fires the trigger gets their own run.
A flow, step by step
Postal takes care of each contact, at their own pace, and records what happened at every step.
Choose what starts the flow
A signup, a tag, entering or leaving a segment, choosing a topic, an open or a click, a change in the contact's data, or an event from your system, such as a paid order.
- Filters on the trigger: it only starts if the order total is R$ 500 or more, for example
- Each contact enters once, or every time the trigger happens
- Spreadsheet imports only fire it if you ask
Send emails, update contacts, notify your system
Each step does one thing. Send an email from your templates, mark the contact with a tag, change a segment or a topic, or call your system with a signed notification.
- The email uses the published version of the template, with the contact's name and other variables
- A/B tests split contacts between variants, on the plans that include them
- Unsubscribed contacts don't receive the emails
Wait for the person, not just the clock
Wait a set time, or until a day and time, such as 9 a.m. on business days. Or wait until the person opens, clicks or replies to the email: if they act, the flow continues right away; if the deadline passes, it continues down another path.
- Waits from minutes to weeks, or until a day and time, with your choice of weekdays and time zone
- Conditions by property, segment, topic, tag or activity on the email
- Two paths, Yes and No, each with its own steps
- To wait for a reply, turn on “Detect replies” on the step that sends the email
See what happened with each contact
Each run keeps a step-by-step history: when it waited, which email went out, whether the person opened it or the deadline ran out. You can filter by status and cancel a run.
- Status: running, waiting, completed, failed, canceled, not started
- An automation only goes live when it is complete: the dashboard lists what is missing
- Editing an active automation publishes a new version; those who already started finish on the old one

- The person acts, the flow continues right away; the deadline passes, it continues down another path
- Step-by-step history of every run
- Editing an active automation publishes a new version; those who already started finish on the old one

Frequently asked questions
Can I edit an automation that is already active?
Yes. When you save, Postal publishes a new version for the next runs. Those who already started finish on the version they entered.
Does a person go through the flow more than once?
By default, only once. If you prefer, choose “Every time the trigger happens” and each trigger starts a new run.
Is there a limit on runs?
Yes, per plan and per month. Once you go over the limit, new runs show as “Not started” and don't count. Each plan's limit is on the pricing page.
Can I schedule the start and end of a promotion?
Yes. You schedule when the automation is activated and when it is paused, for example for a promotion with a start and an end.
