How to use it

Use a template in 3 steps

01

Pick a design or a family

In the dashboard, under Templates, browse designs by category or the families of system emails, with a preview.

02

Apply your brand and adjust

Swap text, images, logo, and colors in the visual editor. For families, the brand applies to all 15 emails at once.

03

Publish and send

Publish the template and send via API with template and variables, or copy the HTML and use it in your system.

Best practices

Tips for an HTML email that works

What usually separates an email that looks good from one that breaks.

01

Use tables and inline styles

Inboxes ignore a good part of modern CSS. Tables for layout and styles directly on elements are the safest way.

02

Stay at 600 px wide

It's a width that fits well on desktop and shrinks on mobile. Use max-width and images at 100% width.

03

Write the preview text

The first sentence of the email shows next to the subject. A hidden snippet at the top gives you control over what the person reads before opening.

04

Make a button that doesn't depend on an image

A link with padding and a background color shows up even when images are blocked. Put alt text on every image.

05

Send the text version too

Postal generates the text from the HTML when you don't send one. It helps with delivery and with people who read without HTML.

06

Keep the HTML light

Gmail clips messages larger than about 102 KB. Avoid repeated styles and long comments.

Questions about email templates

Are Postal's email templates free?

Yes. The 72 designs in the gallery, the 10 families of system emails, and the visual editor are available on the Free plan, with no trial period and no credit card.

Can I download or copy the template's HTML?

Yes. In the email families, the preview has “View HTML code” and “Copy HTML”: you take the compiled HTML, with variables in the {{{NOME}}} format. You can also write or paste your own HTML in the HTML tab of the template editor (or create it through the API, up to 2 MB) and check it in the Preview tab.

What are email families?

They are complete sets of a product's emails, all in the same style. There are 10 families, each with 15 types of email: welcome, email confirmation, access code, magic link, password reset, security alert, team invite, receipt, and more.

Can I use my own logo, colors, and font?

Yes. You apply your brand once (logo, company name, main color, font, footer address, and support link) and it applies to the whole family.

Does it work in Gmail and Outlook?

The emails are generated with tables and inline styles, the format inboxes usually accept. The preview shows the email on desktop and mobile, in light and dark mode, and you can send a test to your inbox before publishing.

How do I send a template?

Through the API, with template: { id, variables } in POST /emails, or in a campaign's editor. Postal uses the latest published version and fills in the variables. See the free email API.
