Metrics

The charts for delivery, opens, clicks and bounces of your sends.

What it's for

The Metrics summarize how your emails are doing: how many went out, how many were delivered, how many came back (bounce), how many became spam complaints and how many were opened and clicked, over time and by domain.

When to use: To keep an eye on sending health, notice a rise in bounces before it pauses your sending, and compare domains.

#Metrics overview

Where to find it: Metrics. Address: app.postal.so/metrics.

The numbers refresh every 15 minutes (the Updated every 15 minutes notice sits next to the filters). By default, the screen shows the last 7 days.

ControlWhat it does
PeriodShortcuts from Today to Last 30 days, including Last 14 days, and the calendar. Short periods (up to 24 hours) are shown by hour; longer ones, by day.
Filters › DomainLimits everything to one domain (All domains clears it).

The six cards

CardWhat it shows
SentHow many emails went out in the period.
Delivery rateDelivered over sent, with the count (N delivered).
Bounce rateBounces over sent. A Warning or Above the limit badge appears when the rate approaches or passes the risk level.
Complaint rateEmails marked as spam over delivered (N marked as spam), with the same badges.
Open rateUnique opens over delivered (N unique opens).
Click rateUnique clicks over delivered (N unique clicks).

Opens and clicks are only counted on domains with tracking turned on. Opens are approximate: some email apps download images on their own (counting too many) and anyone who blocks images is never counted (counting too few).

The charts

ChartWhat it shows
Bounce rate / Complaint rateLines over time with a Risk line (5% bounce and 0.1% complaint): above it your sending reputation is at risk and sending may be paused. Below the bounce chart, the split into Permanent, Temporary and Undetermined: only permanent bounces put the address on the suppression list.
Emails over timePick the Events shown (Sent, Delivered, Bounces, Complaints, Opens, Clicks) with the buttons above the chart to compare them. View table swaps the chart for the numbers of each period and View chart brings it back.
Per domainA table with one row per domain: Domain, Sent, Delivery, Bounce, Complaint, Open and Clicks. Deleted domains show up as Deleted domain.

Warning

The risk line on the chart is the level where email providers start to distrust the sender. Postal's automatic pause has its own limits, explained in Limits, and it warns the owners and admins by email before pausing.

Tip

A high bounce rate almost always comes from an old list or mistyped addresses. Validate the list before your next campaign in Email validation.
