Contacts add-on
The Contacts add-on, when your marketing plan offers it, adds contacts to the limit without changing plans: how to add them, what is charged and when the limit changes.
What it's for
When your marketing plan offers the Contacts add-on, you raise the Audience contact limit without changing plans: each pack adds contacts to the limit and its price goes on the invoice of the same subscription. The owner and admins add, increase and reduce the packs in Settings › Billing, on the Contacts add-on card.
When to use it: For when the Audience is getting close to the plan's limit, but moving up a plan would be more than you need.
#How it works
The team's contact limit becomes the plan's plus the packs': limit = the plan's contacts + each pack's contacts × quantity. The Contacts add-on card shows the sum as three numbers, Plan, + Packs and = Limit, and the line N of M contacts in use underneath.
- Each pack's price is recurring: it is added to the plan's price on the marketing subscription's invoice, at every renewal, and follows its billing (the pack's line says per month or per year).
- You can have several of the same pack, up to a maximum per team. When you reach it, the dashboard says: You can have at most N of this pack.
- Packs do not change the plan: its price and its other limits stay as they are. They only raise the contact limit.
- If your team's contact limit was adjusted individually, that number is the final one and the packs do not add to it.
What uses the limit with packs
Everything that checks the contact limit starts using the number with the packs: creating contacts in the dashboard, through the API, through forms and through integrations, the CSV import, the Audience warning banner and the capture of transactional email recipients. See the full list in Where the limit with packs shows up.
#When you can add them
Packs depend on your marketing plan and your subscription. Each situation has a result on the Contacts add-on card:
| Your situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Paid marketing plan, active subscription and packs on sale | You add, increase and reduce the packs. |
| Paid marketing plan, no packs on sale | The card does not show up (unless the team already has a pack). To get more contacts, see the plans and the Keep adding contacts above the plan limit switch, when the plan offers it. |
| Free plan (no paid subscription) | There are no packs. The card shows: Subscribe to a paid marketing plan to add contact packs. |
| Subscription in a trial or with a pending payment | Packs cannot be changed. The card shows: Your marketing subscription is not active. Fix the payment to change your contact packs. |
| Team billed through a partner | The partner changes the packs, and the card does not show up in the dashboard. |
| Anyone who is not the owner or an admin | Only the owner and admins see billing and change the packs: Only the owner or a team admin can change the contact packs. |
#Add or increase packs
Where to find it: Settings › Billing. Address: app.postal.so/settings/billing.
- On the Contacts add-on card, check the Plan, + Packs and = Limit panel and the list of packs. Each row shows the name, +N contacts, the price (per month or per year) and, if the team already has the pack, the You have N badge.
- Use the Increase (+) button on the pack's row. When the quantity changes, a panel opens with the title Name: from X to Y and the sum of what is going to happen.
- Read the summary: You pay … today (prorated for the rest of the period). and From the next renewal, you pay … in total. and Your limit goes up to N contacts as soon as the payment is confirmed. If the prorated amount is not available yet, the dashboard says it appears when you confirm the payment.
- Click Confirm. Cancel closes the panel without changing anything.
The payment and when the limit goes up
- An increase in the middle of the period is charged right away, prorated for the time that is left, and then goes on the invoice of every renewal.
- The limit only goes up once the payment is confirmed. When the payment goes through right away, you see Packs updated. Your limit is now N contacts.
- If the payment needs confirmation (for example, your bank authenticating the card), the dashboard shows the notice The payment needs to be confirmed, with the text The contact limit only goes up after the payment for the … pack is confirmed. and the Confirm payment button, which opens the invoice. When the link is not available, the notice says to complete the payment with your payment method. The limit goes up as soon as the payment is confirmed, and you close the notice with Close.
- If the payment is declined, you see Payment declined. Update your payment method and try again. and nothing changes in the pack or the limit.
Limit did not go up?
While the payment for an increase is not confirmed, the limit stays the same. If it did not go up, open the invoice with Confirm payment or check the invoices in Billing.
When the dashboard does not let you add
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| You can have at most N of this pack. | You reached the per-team maximum for that pack. The increase buttons are turned off. |
| This pack is no longer on sale. | Whoever already has the pack keeps it, at the price they signed up for, and can reduce it, but cannot increase it. |
| This pack is not sold in the currency of your subscription. | The pack has no price in your subscription's currency. The row says Not sold in your subscription currency. |
| This pack is billed differently from your subscription (monthly or yearly). | Choose a pack with the same billing as your subscription. |
| You already have this quantity of this pack. | There is nothing to change. |
#Reduce or remove packs
Where to find it: Settings › Billing. Address: app.postal.so/settings/billing.
- On the Contacts add-on card, use the Decrease (−) button on the pack's row. To remove the pack, take the quantity down to 0.
- In the panel that opens, read the summary: Takes effect on [date] (next renewal). No refund., Until then, the limit stays at N contacts. and After that, your limit becomes N contacts.
- Click Confirm. You see Reduction scheduled for [date]. Until then, the limit stays the same.
- The reduction takes effect at the next renewal, and there is no refund for the period already paid. Until then, the limit stays the same and you can use all of its contacts.
- While the reduction waits, the pack's row says Becomes N on [date] and the limit panel says From [date] the limit becomes N contacts.
- If the team has a plan change scheduled for the end of the period, it stays in force, together with the reduction.
Giving up a scheduled reduction
While the reduction is not in force, take the quantity back to the current one. The dashboard shows The scheduled reduction is canceled and you keep N of this pack. When you confirm, you see Reduction canceled. You keep your current packs.
When the reduction is refused
| Reason | What the dashboard says |
|---|---|
| The team has more contacts than the limit that would be left | The dashboard says You have more contacts than the limit that would be left after this reduction. Remove contacts and try again. and lists Contacts: you have X and the limit would become Y, with the Manage button that takes you to the Audience. Delete contacts (for example, the unconfirmed ones you do not want) and try again. |
| The subscription ends at the end of the period | Your subscription ends at the end of the period and its packs end with it. Resume the subscription to change them. Whoever canceled can reactivate the subscription in Billing. |
#When the plan changes or the subscription ends
- Changing plans. The packs stay and add to the new plan's limit, both on an upgrade and on a scheduled change. When you reduce the plan, the limit used to tell whether you have too many contacts already includes the packs.
- Canceling the subscription. The packs stay in force until the end of the period already paid and end with the subscription. After that the team goes back to the free plan, with only its limit.
- Pending payment. While the subscription's payment is pending, the packs cannot be changed until you fix it.
